Social Program

Quinta do Encontro

On the afternoon of the 5th of September, you are invited to part-take in a delightful social program. One of the programs includes a coach trip to the Quinta do Encontro winery (which is part of the Global Wines brand) about 30 Km north-west of Coimbra in Anadia (Mealhada region, which is a famous zone for suckling pig dishes). After a welcoming cocktail with a terrific panoramic view of the surrounding vines, you will be served a beautiful three course set lunch, accompanied by a selection of excellent wines, followed by a guided visit to the winery accompanied by one of the winery's wine specialists, who will answer all your questions. This visit will coincide with the wine harvesting/collecting activities at the winery which will be interesting to observe.

Baroque Library, Saint Michael's Chapel and the Royal Palace

The other option is to enjoy a guided visit to the Palace of Schools (Baroque Library, Saint Michael's Chapel and the Royal Palace) of the University of Coimbra (founded in 1290), accompanied by an official guide
(UnivCoimbra - UCTour ). The University of Coimbra has been recognized as World Heritage of UNESCO since 2013, for its extraordinary richness and impact as a University Model, for the Spreading of the Portuguese Language to all corners of the world, the Scientific Reform of the 18th century, as well as its academic traditions and cultural heritage. Discover the University city upon the Hill, and marvel at 8 centuries of history.

Conference Gala dinner: Tertulia d'Eventos

The Conference Gala dinner on the evening of the 4th of September will take place at the Tertúlia d´Eventos restaurant (Tertúlia d'Eventos ) which is situated just over the river Mondego and near both the Portugal dos Pequenitos theme park (worth a visit) and the famous Quinta das Lagrimas hotel (the grounds are fantastic and worth a visit).This will consist of a welcome cocktail, followed by a three course buffet dinner with a selection of delicious Portuguese and regional dishes, accompanied by a selection of excellent wines. The gala dinner is the venue for the famous ISySyCat25 awards ceremony (best orals, and top poster presentations) which we can't wait for and enjoy so much.

Participants need to register at personal area and pay for the selected excursion on the conference site.
